Dude, my name is not Debbie

I received a spam email from a third-party recruiter this morning, and it was a true thing of beauty.  Here’s a screenshot:

recruiter fail

I’ve done third-party recruiting before, and I’m never one to bash the services these folks provide.  That’s not my goal here.  But I do want to call out a few things just in case the recruiter who sent me this reads my blog.

1) Dude, my name is not Debbie.  I know the name “Jubal” may be a little confusing, but I assure you I am male.  I ring the bell at 6’3″ 220 lbs., and I have a sweet beard right now.  I assure you, Debbie is not something you’d call me if you bumped into me on the street.

2) Your subject line is pretty aggressive. While I admire your proactive approach, telling your customers what YOU need is not the best way to drive consumption.  Especially via email.  Especially in the subject line.  Especially to a large male STRANGER that you just called Debbie.

3) Your targeting is off.  I’m a huge proponent of frequent mass engagement, as long as it remains TARGETED.  Whether you are conducting a campaign via email, LinkedIn, or your direct mail software, DOUBLE CHECK your recipient lists before you hit send.  Then check it again.  Then click send.

Debbie  Jubal
